SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING DEPARTMENTAL OPERATIONS DURING COVID-19

The Department of Social Services is committed to continuing to provide essential services to the residents of Frederick County. Beginning Monday, March 23, 2020 our staff will be operation on a flex schedule based on teams in order to reduce the possibility of exposure of all staff so the we can continue to operate.
If you call your worker and they do not answer, please leave a message and someone will call you back. Please note that it may not be your typical worker as we are all covering each other’s work when in the office.
We will make every effort attempt to conduct as many meetings as possible virtually. When necessary, we will have team meetings in the office, but all attendees will be given a brief health screening before the meeting to ensure the safety of all attending.
Access to the office will be limited. Please call ahead to schedule an appointment if you need to see someone in person. All visitors must enter through the main entrance on Kent Street, check in at the front desk and a DSS staff member will escort you to the office.

The Department of Social Services administers a broad range of benefit and service programs to eligible Frederick County residents. Benefits programs include Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid, Food Assistance (Supplemental Nutrition Assurance Program), Auxiliary Grants, Child Care Assistance, Energy Assistance, and Employment Services (VIEW). Services programs include Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, Adult Services including Companion Services to maintain elderly and disabled individuals in their own homes, Foster Care, Adoption, and Prevention/Family Services. In addition, the Department administers a broad range of grants aimed at providing treatment to victims of abuse and neglect, developing independent living skills for foster care youth, promoting self-sufficiency and personal responsibility, and supporting families.
The mission of the Frederick County Department of Social Services is to provide services to individuals and families to promote self-sufficiency, family and individual safety, family stability, personal responsibility, and commitment to children and vulnerable adults.
The Frederick County Department of Social Services will provide case management and financial assistance to support and empower individuals and families. The Agency will work collaboratively with other community agencies to identify, link, or provide services, and will serve as an advocate for vulnerable adults, children, and families.
