honor guard

The Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department Honor Guard was established in April 2009 after personnel felt we needed a group to help honor our fallen and represent our department during public events.

It is the mission of the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department Honor Guard to represent the department and local government of a fallen member. The Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department Honor Guard is a highly disciplined team serving with honor at ceremonial functions and with respect and dignity at funeral services for active and retired personnel and personnel that have died in the line of duty. Lastly, the Honor Guard also provides comfort and compassion for the survivors.

The Honor Guard participates in performing color guard details at civic occasions, such as public parades, sporting events, and other special community events, as requested. The Honor Guard also performs at Departmental events such as dedications, graduations and award ceremonies. The Honor Guard plans, organizes, and performs at funeral and memorial services for Department members. The Honor Guard also assists other agencies with funeral and memorial services. The Frederick County Honor Guard works very closely with the City of Winchester Honor Guard. In fact, most events consist of a combination of both Honor Guards making up one team.

The Honor Guard uses various types of equipment in the performance of its duties to include a brass pike pole, brass axe, fire bell, a Commonwealth of Virginia flag and a United States flag.
