Preventing Frozen Pipes Frozen pipes can leave you without water and since water expands when it freezes, it can also cause your water pipes to break. Be prepared before freezing weather arrives by following these tips: Insulate outside pipes and faucets, as well as inside pipes and faucets in unheated attics, basements, garages, and crawl spaces. Caulk around incoming pipes. Locate your master water shut-off valve and test it. Locate your water meter before snow arrives and keep it clear for accessibility. Disconnect and store outside water hoses in your garage, shed, or basement.

The Fire Marshal's Office (FMO) is dedicated to protecting the lives and property of residents, businesses, visitors and first-responders from the devasting consequences of fires, explosions and hazardous materials throughout Frederick County.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is responsible for enforcing the Frederick Fire Prevention Code as well as applicable sections within the Frederick County Code. The combined efforts of code enforcement, reviewing fire protection system plans, investigating origin and cause of fires and explosions and educating the public about fire prevention and safety helps to prevent emergency incidents, reduce firefighter injury, and increase the quality of life in Frederick County.
