John Jewell was elected to the Board of Supervisors on November 7, 2023. Following the resignation of the previous chair, Mr. Jewell was appointed Chairman by the Board of Supervisors in October 2025. His term ends with a special election in November 2026.

Mr. Jewell committee assignments: Information Technology Committee, Chair; Public Works Committee; Transportation Committee, Chair; Joint Finance Committee; Metropolitan Planning Organization; Northern Shenandoah Regional Commission; Northwestern Regional Jail Board - Alternate

Prior to his election to the Board, Mr. Jewell served as a member of the Frederick County Planning Commission from March 2020 to December 31, 2023.  During his tenure on the Planning Commission, Mr. Jewell served as Chairman from January 2022 through December 2023.

John and his wife, Susan, have lived in the Back Creek District for over 27 years where they raised their children. In the fall of 2019, John retired after serving as the Assistant Sergeant at Arms/Chief Information Officer for the United States Senate during a career that spanned 40 years.
