The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public for its overwhelming interest in the Basic Firearms Safety Class. The January, February, and March 2020 classes are all full as of this date. To accommodate the volume of requests the Sheriff’s Office is scheduling dates in April 2020. If there is a continued interest, future monthly dates will be scheduled throughout 2020.
The free 2-hour course will cover basic operation of firearms; dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling of firearms; and federal and state laws pertaining to firearms. The firearms instructors are certified through Virginia’s Department of Criminal Justice Services, so the class will meet the requirements of Virginia Code §18.2-308.02(B) for obtaining a concealed handgun permit. A certificate will be issued to the student at the completion of the class.
The classes will be held at the Frederick County Public Safety Building at 1080 Coverstone Drive with classes limited to 25 adults (18 or older) per class. Pre-registration is required to attend the class. Please specify which class you would like to attend, and an alternative class date, in case your preferred class date is full. There are no residence requirements to attend the class
Additional classes for April 2020 will be held Monday, April 6, 2020 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2020 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday April 18, 2020 from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Please contact Captain Aleck Beeman via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or telephone (540-504-6508) to register for the class. Captain Beeman will contact you to notify you of your acceptance in the class or to notify you if the class is already full. However, because of the large volume of requests, it may take several days for his response.
