WINCHESTER, VA, August 16, 2019: While some details are still being worked out, Frederick County is pleased to announce that plastic recycling will continue! Coupled with the recent announcement that cardboard and bulk paper, and metal cans recycling will continue, this means that citizens may continue doing what they have been doing: taking these recyclable items to the landfill or convenience sites and placing them in the proper container.
The only change is that you must keep all plastics bags out of the recycling can! Recycle those bags at any retail store, reuse them, throw them away, or, better yet, use reusable bags and skip the plastic variety. Recycling bins and totes are available upon request. Let the attendant know, and we'll have supplies dropped off at the site!
Citizens should be mindful of on-site signage and the possibility that containers may change in the coming weeks as we work to make the programs as efficient as possible. These recycling options will be in place until the end of the calendar year and we are very hopeful they will continue. We appreciate the patience of our citizens as we worked and continue to work through the rapidly changing conditions of the recycling industry and are grateful for the cooperation of everyone moving forward.
