VDOT will host an open house in Frederick County, Virginia, regarding planned improvements to I-81 on June 23, 2026, from 4 PM to 6 PM at Millbrook High School (library). Review proposed improvements to Interstate 81 between mile marker 316.9 and 319 in Frederick County, and the I-81 interchange with Route 11 (Martinsburg Pike) at exit 317 near the City of Winchester.

 

These projects will add a third lane to northbound and southbound I-81, realign the off-ramp from northbound I-81 to Route 11 at exit 317, and reconstruct the interchange as a diverging diamond interchange.

 

A new park-and ride facility will be constructed between Route 661 (Welltown Road) and Crown Lane, which will be converted to one-way roads near their intersections with Route 11.
