Frederick County Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for 39th Consecutive Year
Frederick County, Virginia has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Fiscal Year 2026 budget document. This marks the 39th consecutive year the County has earned this national recognition, underscoring a sustained commitment to excellence in public financial management.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award represents a significant achievement. It reflects the dedication of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors and County staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting and financial transparency.
To receive the award, the County’s budget document was evaluated against nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well a government’s budget functions as:
- A policy document
- A financial plan
- An operations guide
- A communications device
In order to qualify, the budget must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and satisfy fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories. This comprehensive review process ensures that awarded budgets meet rigorous standards for clarity, organization, strategic alignment, and financial integrity.
There are more than 1,900 participants in the Budget Awards Program across North America. Award recipients are recognized for pioneering efforts to improve the quality of governmental budgeting and for providing an exemplary model for other jurisdictions.
