Frederick County Remote Call Event to Assist Citizens in Recovering Unclaimed Property

The Frederick County Treasurer's Office is collaborating with the Virginia Department of the Treasury Unclaimed Property to host an Unclaimed Property Remote Call Event. Scheduled for June 12, 2025,from 10 AM to 4 PM, citizens can call the toll-free number 833-302-0704. The Virginia Treasury Team will provide personalized, one-on-one assistance to search for unclaimed property under their names and initiate claims for any unclaimed accounts that are found.

Since its inception in 1961, the Virginia Department of the Treasury Unclaimed Property has successfully returned over $1.2 billion in unclaimed assets to citizens. By partnering with local treasury offices, this vital message reaches all Virginians. These unclaimed property remote call events represent just one of the outreach initiatives that Virginia Treasury uses to educate and assist citizens in reclaiming their missing funds. Virginia Treasury has multiple outreach efforts in place to further aid citizens in locating and claiming their unclaimed accounts. Annual newspaper inserts inform account owners about unclaimed assets, while letters and claim forms are sent to alert owners of high-value properties. The outreach team also engages with the community by attending senior, local, and corporate events to provide information and assistance.Collaborative remote call events with local treasurers, alongside presentations at conferences and meetings, further enhance these efforts. Collectively, these initiatives aim to raise awareness across the Commonwealth and increase the amount of unclaimed funds returned to citizens.Unclaimed property can consist of various dormant assets, including inactive bank accounts, uncashed checks, refunds, securities, unpaid wages, insurance policy proceeds, and more.

Virginia's consumer protection laws require businesses to escheat unclaimed property to the state, thereby relieving these businesses of any financial obligations. This is a free public service. Citizens are urged to stay alert against unauthorized fee-based services and are encouraged to work directly with Treasury staff to claim their unclaimed property or visit our free website at www.vaMoneySearch.gov
