This 16-hour class is a pre-requisite for any Frederick County or Winchester Fire and Rescue System volunteer that will be enrolling in the fall Firefighter / Hazardous Materials certification courses.  The course will review the proper use of structural firefighting gear and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).  Class will consist of a mini-lecture followed by several practical stations to accustom them to using the gear and identify any mental or physical difficulties they may have while wearing the equipment.

 Requirements for attending:

• Must complete and successfully pass a standard NFPA 1580 health physical (results must be available before the start of this class.)
• Must have a set of structural firefighting gear for use in class.  (Can be gear that is not acceptable for live firefighting, but should be in good condition)
